An anesthesiologist is a physician with an additional three to five years of specialty training in anesthesiology. Anesthesiologists are involved in intensive care, cardiac resuscitation, respiratory therapy, and pain treatment. The primary role of the anesthesiologist is to care for the patient before, during, and after surgery. Tejas Anesthesia, P.A. physicians provide care at many San Antonio area hospitals and outpatient surgery centers.

Our physicians must be certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology. Recent graduates are board eligible and must become board certified within three years of joining Tejas Anesthesia, P.A. Every physician in Tejas Anesthesia, P.A. fulfills an annual commitment to continuing medical education in order to provide the most current and up-to-date care and participates in quality assurance programs in cooperation with each hospital in which we practice. In addition, Tejas Anesthesia, P.A. has a very active compliance and peer review process.

For patients who are facing a surgical procedure, it is often hard to know what to expect or even what to ask when inquiring about anesthesia. Despite the advanced technology and new drugs offered by 21st century anesthetic practices, changes in consciousness and adequacy of pain control remain important issues for patients and their families.

The below site has been developed as an educational public service by the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the national organization for anesthesia professionals. For more information about types of anesthesia, recommendations for successful procedures, and patient experiences please visit this site.
